Flexibility

All companies must be flexible in the market they work within.  Yeti has shown its ability to be flexible with the ability of their product to sustain advantage even when there are multiple copycats presenting in the industry.  Yeti does not rely on only one vendor for their items, rather multiple vendors.  This has kept them available in markets that do not have certain stores.  Unlike RTic which is usually sold at sports themed stores, they are not always in small towns.  However, Yeti has made their product available in small town stores like Stockdales.  Yeti has also shown flexibility when offering new and different products in their product line. They have now started offering drink ware and chairs to keep themselves viable.

Cost Leadership

Yeti keeps a a handle on managerial diseconomies.  They do not have their product mass produced like a few other companies.  Like I have mentioned before, you must apply to be a Yeti dealer.  In essence, they keep demand for their products high because they are not the easiest to find.  The Yeti company keeps their business in the medium size unlike Coleman Coolers.  Although, Yeti is doing well, the threat of substitutes is still a large concern.  No matter how great their business model is it can be crushed by competitors.

Differentiation

Yeti differentiates itself in a couple of ways.   They are only sold by Yeti registered retailers, which means they are not a mass market product.   Business owners and large companies have to apply to be a Yeti distributor.   This keeps their products from overflowing in the market and thus not having the higher appeal than if you had to seek them out.   Yeti had a great market strategy in only offering their products in outdoors/sporting stores in the beginning.   Any man heading hunting, fishing, or tailgating would always need a cooler.   And then offering the many different sizes and even bag coolers was genius. They have also begun differentiating themselves with the accessories to the coolers.   The water proof pouches that can go in the coolers have added picnicking to the list of activities.   They offer smaller size bags that women find fashionable and easy to use.   And of course, why not have an attachment t...

Weaknesses

I have talked a lot about Yeti’s strengths in regard to their designs, being first to the market, and not really having any competition until recently.   However, I have not really discussed Yeti’s weaknesses.   First among one of their greatest weaknesses that Yeti has is their cost.   Now in some market’s people believe that a higher cost proves that the product is better with a higher quality, but this is not always the case.   For Yeti to stay on top of the market a slight drop in price might be what they need to do.   Even if not a drop-in price maybe going on sale every now and then will keep them viable. Another area that could be a weakness for them would be their quality of product.   They do pride themselves on having the best coolers, but are they spending too much on their materials?   I would say yes, because the competitors that have shown up in the market seem to be able to offer almost the exact same experience fo...
